About the Role
Pre-School Assistant duties:
• To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
• To act as a key worker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met by giving your children extra attention through playing and talking with them.
• To use initiative and think ahead, especially when putting planned activities into place.
• To be adaptable/willing to successfully carry out an activity e.g. planned activity, snack bar, supporting free play etc.
• To take all opportunities to talk and interact with the children e.g. during snack time, free play, outside play, cooking, craft etc.
• To always be aware of where children are/what they are doing. To react instantly to any child in distress and offer comfort if needed.
• To be respectful/supportive/co-operative with other members of staff.
• To assist with ideas for the planning of the curriculum and help with making resources.
• To help to set up the playroom for the daily programme if needed and to help tidy away neatly at the end of the session.
• To attend staff meetings.
• To attend training courses and meetings as required.
• To advise the Pre-School Manager of any concerns over children, parents, and safety of equipment preserving confidentiality as necessary.
• To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is required as part of the job.
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-School Manager, in accordance with the Pre-School aims and objectives.
About the Pre-School
Tandridge Village Pre-School and Forest School prides itself in providing high quality care and learning through play for children from 2 to 5 years of age. We are incredibly proud to have Emma, a qualified primary school teacher, to lead our Pre-School team in order to give the children that extra head start ready for school. All our children thrive with the high level of expertise from the staff and we are extremely proud of all our happy, clever and confident Pre-Schoolers.
Requirements
To work as a key worker as part of the Pre-School team under the direction of the Pre-School Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children.
Contracted hours are below, although these are open to negotiation:
Tuesday 8.45am to 3.45pm
Wednesday 8.45am to 3.45pm
Friday 8.45am to 3.45pm
(Contracted hours are applicable to term time only)
Essential Criteria
Relevant and current Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare
Previous experience of working with young children
Commitment to equal opportunities
Commitment to young children and families
Willingness to attend a course to become qualified if not already so
Friendly and flexible approach
Health cleared for the role
Subject to a satisfactory DBS check
